Friday's spirit day theme was "Dress up as what you want to be when you grow up." Students dressed up as nurses, scientists, sports figures, first responders, artists, and more. We strive to build a solid foundation for our Theunis Dey students to help support them on their journey. Big things await!
The amazing second graders at Lafayette Elementary recently took the stage with their inspiring show, "We Could Be Heroes!" The students explored a variety of careers and discovered the qualities that make real-life heroes so special – determination, strength, kindness, and big dreams. They wowed the audience with powerful performances of songs like "Heroes," "Teach Your Children," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and "Hero" (by both Mariah Carey and John Jacobson!). A huge thank you to our dedicated second-grade teachers, Mr. Imbriano, Ms. Vitale, Mrs. Minnella, and Mr. Erikkson, and our talented music teacher Mrs. Valencia for all their hard work in bringing this wonderful production to life!
Liam Romero, a seventh grader at Schuyler-Colfax Middle School, participated in the annual Saxophone Summit at The College of New Jersey with his former music teacher and current saxophone instructor, Mr. Edward Easse, the vocal music teacher at Theunis Dey Elementary School. The summit is led each year by Professor Kathleen Mitchell, the instructor of saxophone at TCNJ, who was also Mr. Easse's saxophone instructor during his time at TCNJ.
The day consisted of rehearsing four challenging pieces of saxophone choir repertoire and a masterclass on saxophone mouthpieces led by the world-renown saxophonist and jazz artist Jody Espina. The culminating event of the day was a concert with over 100 saxophonists from across the state, performing the music that was prepared during the summit. Mr. Romero was one of six middle school students who attended the summit; he performed alongside high school, collegiate, and professional saxophonists, learning the required repertoire and performing at an extremely high level. Congratulations to Liam!
