In honor of American Heart Month, caregivers in our Before and Aftercare Program are strengthening their commitment to the children they care for by participating in CPR and AED training. The training reflects the compassionate spirit of the caregivers, who go beyond simply supervising children—nurturing, supporting, and ensuring their safety at all times. As American Heart Month reminds us to take care of our own health, these caregivers are taking that mission a step further—by ensuring they are ready to take care of others.
Furthermore, all nine before and aftercare programs have loved doing heart arts and crafts and heart-healthy games!
The Morris Museum in Morristown, New Jersey, continues its tradition of celebrating exceptional young artists through its highly competitive Fresh Perspectives exhibition. This prestigious annual competition showcases the finest artwork from high school students across the state, providing a platform for emerging talent to gain well-deserved recognition. This year’s exhibition was particularly competitive, with over 350 student submissions from 43 New Jersey high schools. Among the talented young artists, only 50 had their artwork chosen for display, highlighting their artistic excellence, creativity, and dedication. Notably, two students from Wayne Valley High School, Alex MacDonald and Lauren Toole, and one photography student from Wayne Hills High School, Chad Thompson received this distinguished honor.
The Fresh Perspectives exhibition will be on display at the Morris Museum from March 14 – May 25, allowing visitors to witness the incredible artistry of New Jersey’s high school students. We encourage everyone to visit and support these young artists as they embark on their creative journeys.
Congratulations to Alex MacDonald, Lauren Toole, and Chad Thompson on this outstanding achievement!
William Paterson University recently hosted the Art Start competition, featuring 17 high schools and over 100 submissions across six categories. The event highlighted the creativity of New Jersey’s young artists. The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and gain recognition. Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding work!
Gabriella Matteo from Wayne Valley won Best Drawing for her stippled portrait of her sister, impressing judges with her technique.
Jeanne Lee from Wayne Hills earned Best Photograph for her piece titled "Ice Queen".
This week as a culminating activity, Mrs. Kane’s 8th grade ELA classes at Anthony Wayne Middle School, took part in a mock trial about the novel The Outsiders.
Ryerson Elementary School students have been committed to making a difference in the local community, most recently by participating in a service project to reach the residents of Arbor Ridge Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.
Every student was invited to participate and make a contribution, with the goal in mind of sharing joy and spreading love. Many of the students took the chance to collaborate with their peers, and they also had the opportunity to reflect & practice empathy, thinking about others and the power of kindness.
A group of Ryerson’s Leader in Me Lighthouse Team students gathered at the facility to make a personal and heartfelt delivery. With them, they were able to bring hundreds of submissions of unique artwork, cards, heart creations, and thoughtful messages to distribute for Valentine’s Day!
Preakness Early Childhood Center is receiving Valentine cards from all over the world as part of a project called 'Hearts Around the World.' Each Valentine received is represented with a heart on a map, visually tracking the project's reach across the United States and around the world.
This project has shown that taking a few seconds to send love somewhere, makes all the difference in the world. It has not only promoted the spirit of connection but also provides an engaging educational opportunity for students to learn about geography, cultures, and the value of spreading love.
We have received cards from all over the world from New Jersey to as far as the Philippines. We have even received cards from preschools around the world.
Thank you to our PECC families for spreading the word and helping bring smiles to both the students and staff!
Hola. This is what students at Lafayette did with Ms. Cogorno for San Valentín. Lessons connected with the school-wide character trait of kindness. All grades watched different short videos about friendship and kindness.
These activities aimed to expand their Spanish vocabulary on San Valentín, kindness, and friendship while fostering cultural awareness and social-emotional learning through creative and collaborative tasks.
3rd graders made Valentín cards for a special person at home, decorating them with corazones and Spanish phrases. The 4th and 5th graders wrote Spanish phrases on sticky notes and attached them to large heart shapes, which we displayed in the hallway near the media center.
Members of the Middle School Math Competitions Club at Anthony Wayne, George Washington, and Schuyler Colfax have been working hard this year to showcase their incredible math abilities. From tackling challenging problems to entering multiple competitions, these students demonstrate a true passion for numbers!
The club consists of students from all grade levels coming together in each building to explore mathematical concepts in a fun and engaging way. Students have been tasked with solving complex puzzles, working together to develop creative solutions, and learning from each other's approaches. In addition to that, the club has ventured beyond the standard curriculum by entering the AMC 8, Math League, and AMTNJ Middle School Math contests. Students had an opportunity to showcase their skills and represent Wayne with pride. Stay tuned for the results, as we're incredibly proud of their dedication and hard work!
