I hope you are doing well! We are off to an excellent start for this school year. One of our all of the time goals is to build a strong and supportive environment at each of our schools. One way to help achieve this critical goal is to celebrate our school system and recognize our students and staff. That means we need to share good news about our schools, and we will continue to do that this year through our always-popular weekly newsletter. I encourage everyone to read our newsletter because each edition contains exciting news from our schools. It's a wonderful way to stay informed and engaged with the Wayne Township Public Schools. Thanks to the many contributors who make our weekly newsletter possible.

The Pines Lake 5th graders had an amazing experience mixing colors to create the colors of the rainbow. They began working with the primary colors red, yellow and blue. They learned how to carefully measure the mixtures into graduated cylinders using the metric system. As they added precise measurements they blended the colors. At the end of the investigation they had 6 graduated cylinders that lined up all of the colors of the rainbow! With excitement students were exclaiming ROYGBIV!!!They also learned the importance of lab safety and loved the new privilege of wearing lab coats, goggles and gloves! All in all the 5th grade students learned the importance of listening carefully to directions, teamwork, and being precise with measuring in millimeters!!! Who knew science could be so much fun!!!!
Last week, students in Mrs. Bruce and Mrs. Burtonās 7th grade ELA classes participated in a book tasting. Students explored different genres helping them discover their reading preferences and books of interest.
Wayne Hills High School had their first ever pep rally on September 5th! A great time was had by all!
Third, fourth and fifth grade Theunis Dey students had the opportunity to strengthen their literacy skills over the summer by reading SummerReads nonfiction texts published by the Text Project. Seven, summer-specific nonfiction books for each grade level were available in Google Classrooms to provide easy access to engaging texts. Theunis Dey Reading Specialist, Liz Sponenburg, created this program in response to familiesā requests for additional summer work to boost childrenās literacy skills. 24 Theunis Dey students met the challenge of reading, answering comprehension questions, and submitting their work in September!
"Sticky stuff all over the bars at recess. Luckily, we have the best kids at JFK who offered to help me clean it up!! Teamwork at its finest! š"
This past year, we learned through experience that parental involvement programs that create opportunities for parents to understand how they can best support their childās academic and social growth are especially beneficial. The Gathering Spot is a successful new parent program that started at the Preakness Early Childhood Center during the 2023-2024 school year. Now that we can see how beneficial the program can be, we are expanding the program into other schools and grade levels for the 2024-2025 school year.
The goal is to build an inclusive parent outreach program to provide a safe and comfortable space for parents to come together with community peers and families in a fun, informative, and engaging manner. Click here or scan the QR code to take the survey.
