The Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills field hockey teams hosted the Wayne Boys and Girls Club Panthers at their crosstown pink out game on Tuesday, October 29th. For the second year in a row, the high school teams welcomed the club on their field. Last year, they cheered on both teams at Wayne Valleyās turf while this year Hills hosted the game.
The high school field hockey booster clubs handed out ribbons to the club players, and the younger girls had the opportunity to buy pink merch for the game! It is a tradition for the high schoolers to dedicate their October crosstown games to the battle against cancer. The field hockey teams dedicate theirs to Breast Cancer Awareness month. Many came out strong in pink shirts, ribbons, and socks. The players on the Panthers team followed suit.
During the game, the Panthers had fun seeing Wayne Hills coach Meghan Shaara and Wayne Valley coach Julia Philp in action. They also loved cheering on their future high schools! At half time, the Panthers were invited on the turf to play in a scrimmage!
The Panthers coaches, Wayne teachers Kathleen Briceno and Amy Nazarko along with Wayne residents Aarti Raja, Aimee Kamper, and Amanda Smith, worked with the two booster clubs to make this event happen.
The goal of this event is to build comradery between the schools as well as grow team spirit in the younger players. Hopefully, we will see some of the eighth grade Panthers on the high school teams next year!
Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills gymnastics teams came together to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to support childhood cancer research. The teams raised over $600. They were joined by special guest, Georgia Anthony, who is a cancer survivor and daughter of Wayne Hills teacher Gina Anthony. Coaches Cathy Peters (WHHS) and Carolyne Capizzano (WVHS) did such a wonderful job of raising much needed funds and awareness for a wonderful cause. Thank you to all that donated!
Ms. Fedkenheuer, Mr. Bright, and Mrs. Buraszeski's language arts classes combined in our Innovation Lab for a spooky Halloween-themed escape room! Ms. Fedkenheuer's mom came in dressed as the witch who haunted Schuyler-Colfax during our Pink Out Week. Puzzles were based around plot, conflict, and point of view and reviewed our ELA concepts while we had some fun! Students solved riddles, clues, and even used blacklights to search for codes. While we are glad the haunting is over, we look forward to the witch's return next year!
English students at Wayne Valley High School participated in a Halloween āWhodunitā mystery activity during the week of October 28. Each student was assigned a suspicious character, and they investigated a ācrimeā that took place at a fictional high school. Students enjoyed interviewing their classmates to find the culprit. The activity required critical thinking, investigative analysis, and acting skills. The Halloween mystery activity in the WV Media Center was a success!
The WHHS Patriot 5 Woodwind Quintet, under the Direction of Mr. Sullivan and Ms. Boronow, recently performed at the beautiful Laurelwood Arboretum in Wayne. They played a popular repertoire of pieces that the jam-packed audience enjoyed!!
Catch them at the Wayne Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday Evening, December 5th at 6:30 pm at Town Hall.
Congratulations to Mrs. Bruceās 7th grade ELA class for placing top level in the Global Read Aloud Kahoot last week. Bryahni received a perfect score of 15,000 points giving her 1st place. Mrs. Bruceās also had 3 additional students placed in the top 10 out of over 700 students. The Global Read Aloud Project was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to make a global connection with millions of students now participating.
More than 100,000 students entered nearly 340,000 original works of art and writing to the 2024 Scholastic Awards. Advanced Photography student, Noa Turro, was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual arts for excellence in originality, skill and the emergence of personal vision. Fewer than 2,500 works received a National Medal, which places Noa within the top 8% of all submissions! Noaās photo, titled "Be Home By Dark," features a reflection technique. This nationally recognized image was taken at her alma mater, Randall Carter Elementary School.
