Ryerson's 1st Graders Visit the Wayne Public Library

Ryerson Elementary School’s first graders recently enjoyed a fun and educational trip to the Wayne Public Library. Students toured the children’s section, learned how the library works, and discovered the many resources available to young readers.
A highlight of the visit was students receiving their very own library card. They proudly selected books and learned how to check them out on their own—an exciting milestone for these emerging readers.
The trip sparked enthusiasm for reading and strengthened the ongoing partnership between Ryerson Elementary and the Wayne Public Library. Ryerson’s Media Specialist, Mrs. Christine Halstater said, “It was a memorable day that encouraged students to continue exploring the joy of books.”

Career Speaker Spotlight: Mr. Decker Visits Mrs. Girgis’s 3rd Grade Class at TD

Mrs. Girgis’s third graders at Theunis Dey Elementary School had an exciting learning experience this week thanks to a special visit from parent and career speaker Mr. Jack Decker, president of Decker Tape Products.

Mr. Decker shared with students what his company does and what his role involves. He explained the many different types of tape they produce and walked students through the full production process from start to finish.

To bring the lesson to life, Mr. Decker led a hands-on challenge. Students worked in teams to build a tape bridge, testing which structure could hold the most tape rolls.  Mr. Decker surprised each student with a personalized pack of tape featuring all of their names; a keepsake they were thrilled to take home.

GWMS Color Run is a Resounding Success

George Washington Middle School was bursting with color, energy, and school spirit on Friday, November 21, as nearly 200 enthusiastic students participated in the first Color Run, an event sponsored by the GWMS Parent-Teacher Organization. The fun-filled event, which saw students navigate a course just under one mile, was much more than just a run. Participants faced three exciting obstacles designed to challenge and entertain: an Army crawl, a tire course, and a section requiring them to weave between cones.

The Color Run proved to be a major success both in terms of community engagement and fundraising. The event generated nearly $10,000 for the school, a fantastic result that will help fund various student programs, classroom resources, and school improvements throughout the year. "We are incredibly proud of our students for their participation and their incredible effort in raising such a substantial amount," said Jacqueline Murphy, school counselor and faculty Color Run coordinator. "Events like the Color Run not only promote physical activity and teamwork but also strengthen the bond between our students, staff, and the PTO. We thank all the parents, volunteers, teachers, and the PTO for making this event possible."

WHHS Leos Volunteer at Special Needs Camp

Wayne Hills Leo Club members recently volunteered at Camp Marcella in Rockaway, NJ, a camp that serves people with disabilities of all ages. During the visit, Leos helped rake leaves all around the campground in preparation for upcoming programs. It was a great opportunity to support the community and make the camp’s environment safer, cleaner, and more welcoming for the campers.
